Six miles east of
Clinton is 4,900-acre Clinton Lake State
Recreational Area on a vast, 15,000-acre preserve
maintained by the state. The lake boasts 130 miles
of shoreline, a beautiful 1,000-foot swimming beach,
300+ campsites, boat and canoe launch points, a
marina, and numerous hiking trails and picnic sites.
Anglers cast for hybrid
striped bass, frequently exceeding 10 lbs. in
weight. Water skiing is another warm weather sport;
in winter, Clinton Lake offers ice-skating, ice
fishing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
Hikers can follow two trails – 3.5 and 12 miles long
– as well as a third, 10-mile trail also open to
cross country skiers and horseback riders. |
